What is Telehealth Physical Therapy?

Telehealth physical therapy is a virtual or remote method of treatment for musculoskeletal pain. This accessible form of healthcare delivery allows patients to receive physical therapy services remotely using technology such as video conferencing and digital platforms.

What Can Be Treated on Telehealth?

Here you can see just a few of the injuries and conditions that our Aware Health providers treat and manage on telehealth. We provide telehealth physical therapy and more to create a one-stop shop for orthopedic care and health and wellness.

What Are the Advantages of Using Telehealth?

Telehealth is growing in popularity because it eliminates many common barriers to care. Let's discover how:

  • Improved access to care: Telehealth ensures that patients can receive care even when traditional in-person visits are not possible or practical, such as those in remote areas or with lack of access to reliable transportation.
  • Reduced travel time: Telehealth eliminates the need to travel to a clinic, saving time off work or away from family.
  • Cost-effective: Telehealth patients see cost savings by eliminating gas and potential childcare costs for appointments. Aware Health specifically is a free service to our patients, with no co-pays or deductibles.
  • High convenience: With less barriers in the way, patients have reliable access to their provider and can attend sessions from anywhere.
  • Improved patient engagement: With convenient care and less reliance on passive treatment methods, telehealth patients are an integral part in their health and wellness journey. Aware Health focuses on evidence-based treatment strategies for pain relief, mobility, and strength, helping our clients live more.
  • Care adaptable to the patient's environment: For example, are you having difficulty reaching to the top shelf or carrying a laundry basket? Do you have pain sitting at your work desk or even with your golf swing? If so, telehealth sounds like a great fit. We will assess your environment and mechanics, and continue practicing to promote a pain-free day to day routine.

Why Should I Use Aware's Telehealth Platform Instead of Going to a PT Clinic?

Aware Health offers same-day evaluations, 1-on-1 care, and all of our providers are Doctors of Physical Therapy (DPTs). The evaluation and follow-up appointments are always with the same clinician to ensure continuity of care. In an outpatient PT clinic, patients also see a DPT for their evaluation, but may follow up with different providers consisting of another DPT, PT Assistant (PTA), or PT tech. Also, many clinics cannot guarantee 1-on-1 treatment. Aware Health's telehealth patients can communicate directly with their provider via email and phone in between Zoom appointments as well to promote relationship building and a streamlined treatment plan.

What Does A Telehealth Session Look Like?

Your Aware Health session will typically focus on reviewing your personalized treatment plan and goals, practicing movements and exercises, modifying or progressing your plan, and answering questions about your symptoms or program. Patients can also receive guidance on health and wellness, sleep, and ergonomics.

At Aware Health, patients have access to a web-based dashboard where all treatment plans and resources, such as exercise videos, can be accessed on-demand.

What are the Barriers to Telehealth?

Similar to any treatment method, some patients may not be a fit for telehealth physical therapy. The primary barriers include technology limitations, being unaware that telehealth is an option, and patient preference for in-person treatment. Aware Health is a free benefit through your insurance, so in most cases it would be beneficial to schedule a free consultation with our team of experienced telehealth clinicians first, to decide if virtual PT is appropriate for you.
